I had written similarly but from a different perspective in my post:Gelernter suggests that the dichotomy between art/beauty and science/technology has led to inadequate academic training of computer-science students. He points out that the greatest minds in science and industry have always pursued beauty. ‘Machine beauty is the driving force behind technology and science,’ he says, and yet ‘beauty bothers us.’ Somehow it’s perceived to be softer and less rigorous to train computer scientists in art, music, architecture, and design. However, Gelernter sees these disciplines as closely aligned with the mathematics and science that are the foundation of technology. Because of this lack of aesthetic education, much user interface has been poorly designed.

I believe after a point the lines between arts and sciences blur. When something beautiful can be explained by rational, mathematical arguments thats science..When the same Beauty becomes inexplicable, it becomes Art. Both make us happy: arts and science, but happiness which stems without any Reason is bliss. Pure genious is art. A genious mathematician at work is an artist. So is Mozart or Bethoven or Van Gogh. Haven't we heard of late "Roger Federer makes tennis look so damn simple!"..Thats engineer turned artist for you :-)..Swami vivekananda said "You cannot find silence, Silence is all around you: just remove the noise. In the same way all knowledge of the universe lies all within you: Just remove your ignorance one by one": mathematics, music, sciences, art are all parts of knowledge of the holistic Whole. So all of 'em are beautiful :-).. have fun,~shree
