Its evening about 7:00pm...Was just walking back from the main gate into the Aditya Birla Centre when i realised that I wouldn't be seeing an evening at this place any more....reflecting on my life at Aditya Birla - its been enjoyable....have got a feeler of corporate life especially because was positioned right in the middle of the corporate office of the Group. Got to see a lot of ups and downs ... power struggles .. ego clashes and happy times too...
In fact the Aditya Birla Management Corp was in the stage of moving into its new office - Aditya Birla Centre when I joined. And my department was the only one in this building for my 1st month of training. So 'we', Corporate IT were the hosts and I was very much into welcoming the rest of the Corp into this building. Helped set up a lot of things - the access control system, the cafeteria management system etc ... also got to revise the roll list of the Corporate office atleast 4-5 times during the course...it is an advantage as i see it - 'cause today I know almost everybody in this office.... and now I am quite a known face here...anyways.. all good things should come to an end and so is this...
One question which is revolving in my mind - suppose I get a PPO .. would I like to spend my life or atleast the 1st part of my corporate life here ?? Yes and No....
Yes, because I like this place.. in spite of being the corporate office its pretty dynamic and free...quite professionally managed unlike the perception of Birla's outside...also the kind of exposure I might get here (should i be a mgmt trainee at the group level) is good.. will get a chance to oversee a lot of projects and in diverse and India's largest manufacturing centres...it will be exciting, learning and can pave way for a career in consulting ....
No, because Corp IT is not a software company, no such good company in the whole group either...I always wanted to become a part of software development.. why ? Probably because I have been exceptionally good at programming.. I can even write assembly programs without bugs..even without dry runs...Also in a software company you get a chance to be a part of the complete cycle - development, designing, coding and finally implementation.. but here I would primarily be a part of Implementation and desing stages - no involvement in coding which I consider my forte as said before...At the same time - implementation and design are the most important parts of the job....dunno .. i would say I a am bit confused....
However one thing as always is clear in my mind - I am not a person for a lifetime employment...however good and encouraging the Boss might be (as was the case here), in a job u never have control over your own work.. u must do whats assigned to you rather than what u want to do ... and this is what I hate..from school I have never been able to adjust to an authority commanding me what to do .... even there I tolerated no interference from teachers in my activities..I was probably the only cultural incharge ever who directly reported to the Principal..and so I have felt frustated at times even at Birla....when I had to do what I did not want...
And thus my resolve to start up on my own is further strengthened after my stint in AVB..... But I must say that I have enjoyed AVB and will this org will always have a place in my heart....
